Claims-based authorization in ASP.NET Core | Microsoft Learn

When an identity is created it may be assigned one or more claims issued by a trusted party. A claim is a name value pair that represents what the subject is, not what the subject can do. For example, you may have a driver's license, issued by a local driving license authority. Your driver's license has your date of birth on it. In this case the claim name would be DateOfBirth, the claim value would be your date of birth, for example 8th June 1970 and the issuer would be the driving license authority. Claims-based authorization, at its simplest, checks the value of a claim and allows access to a resource based upon that value. For example if you want access to a night club the authorization process might be: The door security officer would evaluate the value of your date of birth claim and whether they trust the issuer (the driving license authority) before granting you access. An identity can contain multiple claims with multiple values and can contain multiple claims of the same type. ... Bodies call for removal of ‘but for’ CSLR claims driving cost blowout - ifa

As the minister contemplates the prospect of issuing a special levy, the ICA and SIAA have argued that “but for” claims should be excluded from the Compensation Scheme of Last Resort (CSLR). With the broader financial services sector now facing the possibility of footing the bill on a $47.3 million special levy, the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) said there are a number of factors that need to be addressed before any decision is made. Namely, the ICA stated in its submission to Treasury that removing “but for” claims from the CSLR would “significantly reduce” cost pressures on the scheme.Similarly, the Stockbrokers and Investment Advisers Association (SIAA) in its submission to Treasury said: “One impact from AFCA’s approach to calculating claims is that the scheme is not just paying for investors’ actual financial losses but covering their unrealised estimated profits.” · This, it said, is particularly the case for Dixon Advisory complaints. “The CEO of the scheme, David Berry, has recently revealed that about 80 per cent of amounts paid by the CSLR to Dixon Advisory complainants are ‘but for’ losses, leaving just 20 per cent as involving an actual capital loss,” SIAA said.ICA further argued that government should reconsider eligibility and compensation thresholds on claims to contain future blowouts. “This may include a reduction in the cap and establishing a means-based test for eligibility,” it said. “Should the government proceed with a special levy ahead of a formal review of the CSLR, it should be spread as broadly and thinly as possible to only capture subsectors connected to the underlying conduct, including managed investment schemes.”Noting that the top 10 financial institutions by income paid an upfront levy of approximately $241 million at the inception of the scheme to cover the backlog of complaints lodged with AFCA between 1 November 2018 and 2 September 2022, the ICA said it is “not appropriate for these institutions to be continually called upon to meet funding shortfalls”. “Levying large entities to pay valid claims against other subsectors subverts principles of accountability, regulatory certainty, transparency, fiscal responsibility, sectoral risk differentiation, sustainability and equity.

Claims-based identity - Wikipedia

A claim is a statement that one subject, such as a person or organization, makes about itself or another subject. For example, the statement can be about a name, group, buying preference, ethnicity, privilege, association or capability. The subject making the claim or claims is the provider. The name "claims-based identity" can be confusing at first because it seems like a misnomer, attaching the concept of claims to the concept of identity appears to be combining authentication (determination of identity) with authorization (what the identified subject may and may not do).It is up to the application receiving the incoming claim to map the is/is not claims to the may/may not rules of the application. In traditional systems there is often confusion about the differences and similarities between what a user is/is not and what the user may/may not do.Claims-based identity makes that distinction clear. Once the distinction between what the user is/is not and what the user may/may not do is clarified, it is possible that the authentication of what the user is/is not (the claims) can be handled by a third party. With these two steps completed the nightclub has successfully authenticated the patron with regard to the claim that he or she is of legal drinking age. Continuing the analogy, the nightclub may have a membership system, and certain members may be regular or VIP.Claims-based identity is a common way for applications to acquire the identity information they need about users inside their organization, in other organizations, and on the Internet. It also provides a consistent approach for applications running on-premises or in the cloud.

We give orders and make threats (“order the fries, or else!”). We express feelings and sensations (“yum, fries”, “ouch, too hot!”). But one of the most important things we do is to state what we take to be true. Each of these is either true or it isn’t (and obviously not all of them can be true, since some state opposite and so incompatible things). But: CRUCIAL POINT: Whether or not a claim is actually true is a separate issue from whether it is a claim. This is most clear when you look at claims that are obviously false, as in the case of “French fries are made from tomatoes.” · (For you food nerds out there: fries used to be called French fried potatoes, which implies there is a technique of French frying that could, in principle, be used to cook other things, possibly even tomatoes (though the water content, at least for ripe ones, would make that a challenge. In many cases you may not know whether a given claim is true, but you can still see that a claim is being made. I have no idea, for instance, whether the claim “the largest French fry ever made was over two pounds” is true. I doubt it is, but who knows?

What is a claim? – Research and Writing Skills for Academic and Graduate Researchers

According to Heady (2013) “Claims are the points you want to prove, interpretations you want to offer, and assertions you want to make” (p. 74). Importantly, in academia claims are statements that can be supported by evidence. For example, claiming that traditional classroom teaching is boring is not a good claim because it lacks definition (what does ‘traditional classroom teaching’ actually mean? and how do we measure ‘boring’)? It may also be a ‘sweeping statement’ (meaning it’s far too general in scope). However, claiming that “traditional teaching methods, like didactic instruction, do not provide sufficient interaction with students and lead to poor learning outcomes” is a good argumentative claim, because it can be investigated and measured. The following provides examples of the difference between sentences and statements. The statements present a stance or position about the topic under discussion. This is important to understand as all claims must consist of a stance towards the topic. The function of claims in academic writing is to provoke, analyse, or interpret rather than merely describe or present facts. They can do this by affirming, acknowledging, confirming, or refuting the proposition being made. In this way, claims do the job of building an overall argument or thesis in a piece of work (i.e.

Claim - here's everything you need to know | Dictionary | Collectia A/S

The word "claim" is a legal term for a claim that one party has against another party. A typical claim is often a demand for payment of a sum of money, for example in the form of an unpaid invoice. But claims can also be demands to deliver a service, thing or similar. An outstanding receivable is typically a financial receivable that has not been collected but should have been paid. Claims are between a debtor and a creditor. In a legal sense, the creditor is the claimant - the holder of a claim, and thus the person or company that has a claim or right to a financial claim. Some companies and collection agencies specialize in buying receivables and pledging receivables where the creditor sells a receivable. The sale of a debt is typically done by, for example, a debt collection company buying your debt at a discount, after which the debt collection company tries to collect the full amount. The debt collection company earns the difference between what they bought the debt for and what they manage to collect.A claim is between a debtor and a creditor when a debtor owes money to a creditor; company, individual or authority. If a debt cannot be recovered either with the help of a debt collection agency or through the enforcement court, it will be possible to file a bankruptcy petition against the debtor in order to recover all or part of the debt.
